Congenital

We are all born with these, as a way of supporting for instance, the bowel.

Acquired

Following Pelvic Infection 'PID' or uncommonly, ruptured appendix
Associated with inflammatory conditions (predominantly Endometriosis)
Bowel damage with Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis etc.

Iatrogenic (the result of medical intervention)
As a consequence of a surgical procedure:
IVF, inadvertent perforation of the bowel when aspirating ripened eggs
Incomplete removal of conditions such as Endometriosis
Excessive haemorrhage following major surgery
(creating 'sticky surfaces').
