Heavy Periods (Menorrhagia)
Aetiology
Uterine in origin
Polyps or fibroids distorting the cavity
Enlarged uterus (with more endometrium to bleed each cycle)
Ovarian in origin
Ovulation not occurring readily in early or mid reproductive years
(eg Polycystic ovaries)
Ovulation not occurring in pre-menopausal years (44-53), triggering 'flooding'
Unusual hormone secreting tumours
Others
Patients with a family history of bleeding disorders
